I had absolute confidence in Dr Deguara ability from an early stage. He is very dynamic but also communicates using language that is appropriate for Mr Joe Blogs, he only uses medical terminology when need be and explains things as required. I never felt I couldn't or shouldn't ask something and when I did the answer was given in a clear and concise way. I would like to take this opportunity to again thank him for all he has done for me and continues to do.

Mr Deguara conducted the laparoscopic cholecystectomy to remove my gall bladder because polyps needed a biopsy. He explained everything clearly and performed the operation perfectly - a swift recovery and no ill effects - and the follow-up was equally clear. The only suggestion is to have realistic timings given to patients for the appointments to see Mr Deguara and colleagues in the Gastroenterolgy Dept.: everyone was being seen at least half an hour late on both occasions I went there. But it is a great service: long live the NHS!

I had been experiencing episodes of severe abdominal pain which on ocassion had caused me to go to A&E. It had been enduring this pain for 2 years before I found some evidence of a lump with the pain and was referred to Mr DeGuara. On our first appointment he made me feel like he was going to pull out every stop to find out what the issue was. He communicated clearly that, as it was a bit of a guessing game, there were several steps in the process. He told me exactly what those steps were. After several of these steps a CT scan revealed a small hernia. Mr Deguara told me that there might still be other underlying conditions but that laparoscopy was an option. I took that option and a date was scheduled. On the day of the op once again Mr Deguara communicated clearly everything that would happen and managed my expectations. The whole team at Kingston hospital were amazing. It transpires that I had 2 hernias. A simple one as shown on the scan and then a complex hernia in an unusual place which was further from the site of incision than he would usually work and hadn't shown up on any scans. Despite the extreme complications he encountered Mr Deguara managed to keep the procedure laparascopic and fixed the problem. My recovery is slow and steady and I've now been discharged to the care of my GP. I can't recommend Mr Deguara highly enough. He is personable and intelligent, trustworthy and realistic. It would seem he's also good with surprises!
